Back in the day, I learnt a lot from being involved in productions where shared cultural issues were negotiated.
Invariably, the person responsible for assembling a team would have the last word regarding choices that were made.
Due to the cultural dynamics of those times, the discussions were sometimes fraught and charged with angst. Many performing artists who happened to be of African descent faced a limited range of options for developing an aesthetic or sensibility.
Nowadays, many of us can follow our personal passions, with the potential to bring new dreams, visions and vistas to the table.
The times ahead could be exciting…
