Handling baggage | Juwon Ogungbe

Carrying psychological or emotional baggage is a part of human nature. It has been pointed out in some quarters that triggers are teachers, so it is healthy to be reflective about the reasons why we all get rubbed up the wrong way, occasionally.

One doesn’t have to be a people pleaser, to be considerate. Self awareness should give a person the tools needed to go about business without stepping on other people’s toes.

Emotions that are often labelled as ‘negative’ need to be acknowledged and given space to breathe. On a good day, I can see myself feeling irked and I search for ways to regulate the sensation.

Expecting other folks to take responsibility for regulating their emotions is futile. All one can do is listen and learn.

When one bumps into another person who carries a heavy load, one apologises and moves on, hoping for better luck next time.
