Looking for leadership | Juwon Ogungbe

Stating that leadership is tantamount to service is well worn. Leaders need to build trust in their followers that they will deliver on promises. They also need to demonstrate that they have instincts worthy of trust.
Appearing to lead, or enjoying the perks of doing so at the expense of dealing with the demands of the act should be regarded as vain or ego driven. Bearing the responsibility for making decisions and choices that affect others is more complex than it might seem on the surface.
Popularity or the lack thereof shouldn’t be part of the equation in such situations. Being able to see what people need, as opposed to what they want, is much more significant.
Sometimes, it pays to lead by example. Having to drag kicking and screaming followers down a path can feel like too much hard work for some leaders. The time and energy can be used more effectively in some cases.
A precedent can be set either from a remote space, or from a ‘hands on’ form of engagement.
