Living in the moment, being one’s self, there isn’t much time for stepping back to look at one’s reflection in a mirror, or a pool.

Hindsight provides the benefit of perceiving process in context. Some folks are wary of documentation, but all in all, it is helpful to look back at past exploits occasionally.

A friend of mine made documentary films about a way of life that was eventually disrupted by unrest and oppression.

After he passed away, his films were screened and we saw youngsters of the same heritage who had missed out on those quieter times, watching footage of their forebears, in amazement and wonder.

Entertainment has its uses, but documentation of real life is potentially more valuable.
